Vogue covers (December 2012):

Here I am with some of the December covers that are already out.
December is, as you may already know ;), the last month of the year and is quite an important month for magazines. It's not as important as September, or March, but it has something special and magazine directors always try to do something different and good this month. What I mean is that they put an extra effort on December but then their January's issue is usually weak. For some magazines, such as Vogue Paris, this is their December/January cover and issue, which is another reason to try to do a good job.
Another thing we have to think about is that Christmas is coming, and we usually see some festive colours on the covers (lots of green and red) or even some snow, or references to religion (for example, last year's December cover of Vogue Spain with Dree H. and a baby, which made us think on Virgin Mary and Jesus).

Speaking about Vogue Spain, I'm really looking forward to seeing their December issue, which will be out in a few days. We know it will be dedicated to Mario Testino, who is not my favourite photographer but, some of the models that will be on this issue are Isabeli Fontana, Eva H. and Natasha Poly, so we already know that the cast is iconic. We also know there will be a bunch of spanish male models, which is nice to know too, since some of them are really good models.
But, the thing is, that I find really good this whole idea of Vogue Spain dedicating an entire issue to a photographer. They just do it once a year and it really is a great opportunity for us to get some sort of a photographer's portofolio for just 3.50 euros.
Two years ago it was Peter Lindbergh, which is one of my favourite photographers and last year it was Bruce Webber.
This year it will probably be more commercial that artistic, but I still think that being able to get this kind of magazine is a luxury for both fashion and photography lovers. We have to think that anytime magazines realeased some special issues dedicated to a model, or a designer, etc...they are really expensive, and now we get something similar for a few euros. So, even though I criticize Vogue Spain when they do something wrong, I repeat a hundred times how good their work is when I like it.



Aquí estoy con algunas de las portadas de Diciembre que ya están a la venta.
Diciembre es, como supongo que sabéis ;), el último mes del año, y es bastante importante para las revistas. No tanto como Septiembre o Marzo, pero tiene algo especial y los directores de las revistas intentan hacer algo diferente y bueno. Lo que quiero decir es que ponen un mayor esfuerzo en Diciembre y luego el número de Enero es más flojo. Para algunas revistas, como Vogue París, este es su número de Diciembre/Enero, lo cuál es otra razón para intentar hacer un buen trabajo.
Otro detalle a tener en cuenta es que la navidad se acerca, y solemos ver colores festivos en las portadas (mucho rojo y verde)o incluso nieve, o referencias religiosas (el año pasado con Dree H. en la portada de Vogue España con un bebe, lo que nos hacía pensar en la Virgen María y el niño Jesús).

Hablando de Vogue España, tengo muchas ganas de ver este número, que saldrá en unos días. Sabemos que estará dedicado a Mario Testino, que no es uno de mis fotógrafos favoritos pero, algunas de las modelos de ese números serán Isabeli Fontana, Eva H. y Natasha Poly, con lo que sabemos que el casting es icónico. También sabemos que aparecerán unos cuantos modelos españoles masculinos, lo cual está bien porque algunos de ellos son muy buenos.
Pero, lo importante es, que considero muy buena esta idea de dedicar todo un número a un solo fotógrafo. Lo hacen una vez al año y es una manera de conseguir una especie de portofolio por solo 3.50 euros.

Este año será probablemente más comercial que artístico, pero aún así pienso que poder conseguir esta clase de revista es un lujo para los amantes de la moda y/o la fotografía. Tenemos que pensar que cada vez que las revistas sacan especiales sobre una modelo, un diseñador, etc...son muy caros, y ahora podemos conseguir algo parecido por un par de euros. Así que, pese a que critico a Vogue España cuando hacen algo mal, también repito 100 veces lo bueno que es su trabajo cuando me gusta.

And now you can say: but you said the try to make a great job this month, and those covers are awful!!....well, I said they TRY ;)
It's true this covers are really bad, but at least they tried to get important models for this month issue. I mean, they have Natalia, Karlie, Julia and Daria who are having a great moment in their careers, Cara who is an it-girl, etc...
And you can also see some green and red on the covers.


Y ahora podéis decir: pero dijiste que intentan hacer un gran trabajo este mes, y esas portadas son horribles!....bueno, dije que INTENTAN ;)
Es verdad que las portadas son realmente malas, pero al menos intentaron tener a modelos importantes para este número. Quiero decir, tienen a Natalia, Karlie, Julia y Daria que están en el mejor momento de sus carrera, Cara que es la it-girl del momento, etc...
Y además podéis ver verde y rojo en las portadas.
