New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 17.18: Review #2

Second and final review for NYFW. It has been quite a good week, if I'm honest. I feel like I'm more into fashion than I was last season, and that makes me happy. I hope LFW doesn't kill my vibe ;)  Shows that are worth a mention are ODLR and Proenza Schouler. De la Renta because they have new designers, who I think did a great job. This felt more like the classic ODLR than Copping's ODLR ever did. And Proenza because this was their last show in NY. They're moving to Paris, which is always exciting. I adore this brand and if I could purchase all their clothes, I won't hesitate for a second. This collection was supposed to be all about NY, which is a concept that I fail to understand. But I know I liked it, so it's all good. I also really enjoyed Narciso Rodriguez's show, as usual, and Ralph Lauren's. You can argue that Ralph does the same thing over and over again, but...it's SO pretty! How can I not like it? Segunda y última reseñ...

-Oscar de la Renta: While everyone raved about Peter's collections for the brand, I judged them all. And I feel like that worked, because now what I hear about this show sounds more like what I think. Not trying to say that I'm the only one who can be right, though. When you start designing for a brand, you have two options: a) Continue doing what the original designer did; b) Change the style of the brand completely, à la Slimane. Peter did a bit of both. He continued doing dresses for princesses, like she was doing at Nina Ricci, but tried to adapt those dresses to what de la Renta used to do. It wasn't a smooth transition, but it wasn't the worst I have seen. What bothered me was that people raved about it and said that it was like de la Renta never left. Well, excuse me?  Oscar didn't use to cast too young looking models, because he designed clothes for women, strong women. So doing dresses for princesses that seem to be made of cotton candy is not ...

-Altuzarra: Awww, isn't it nice to see Vanessa back on the runway? And she closed the show. I honestly struggled to understand her career when she was on top, so you can imagine the struggle now. She was supposed to be the Karlie Kloss of her generation. What happened? Anyway, let's talk about the collection. Do I spy (with my little eye) some Louis Vuitton inspiration? I mean, it's 9 am and I'm not fully awake but...it's pretty obvious, right? And that kind of proves my point that what I don't like about this brand is its lack of personality. I don't see an Altuzarra piece and think "that's Altuzarra" unless I recognize it from the runway show. And that's basic in fashion.
