Zara Spring/Summer '18 by Steven Meisel

Three seasons ago, Zara surprised us hiring Steven Meisel to shoot their campaign. They worked with important photographers before, but getting Meisel was the final step. I have been a massive fan of this collaboration, specially last season. After two dark collections, we finally get some colour. It also has a Prada vibe that I love. As in his previous two campaigns for the brand, Meisel has included Vittoria on the cast. It's also great to see Fran, one of my new favourites.

Max Mara Spring/Summer '18: Cara Taylor by Steven Meisel

Imagen
Cara Taylor is one of the models of the moment on the catwalk, and her campaign season proves she is doing equally well on the print department. She may or may not feature on my "Queen of the campaign season" Awards. But what is more important is that she is getting quantity, and making it feel like quality as well. I have said in the past that I don't really like her on the runway, but that I find her to be really good in print. Put that on the same sentence as Steven Meisel, and you get this campaign. The last four Max Mara campaigns featured four different models, but it was Meisel who shot them all and...he created magic four times in a row. Not that I'm surprised, because that is just what he does.  When it comes to other clients of his, he has a harder job because the clothes are...well, not that easy to show off. But Max Mara is not one of those clients, and I guess that makes his job slightly easier. Still, I can't take any credit away from ...

Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2018: Valentino, Chanel, Dior, ...

Another Couture season has ended, and it felt very similar to me to the last few. By that I mean that I was kind of disappointed by most shows, but Valentino arrived and saved the day.  It is not just about creating good collections, it is about understanding HC as a concept. And I think Pierpaolo is really good at that. Another positive surprise was Givenchy. It was Clare's debut on the Couture world, and I have to say that I liked it way more than expected.  In the model department, someone who keeps on capturing my attention is Fran Summers, who walked most shows and opened Valentino. Vittoria and Kiki had yet another great season as well. ...

Spring/Summer 2018 campaigns: Valentino & Miu Miu

Imagen
Two of my favourite brands have produced two of my favourite campaigns of the season. Rianne, who may end up being this season's campaign queen, is in both of them and is the highlight of both ads.  Gigi, who not many people will see as a Valentino girl, is the other highlight. Versace S/S 2018 campaign, by Steven Meisel

After the huge production for the Spring/Summer show that Versace did, everyone expected a huge campaign. Some people wanted a campaign with the supermodels from the 90's and other wanted a mix of models from different decades. The team went for the latter, and I'm happy about it. Cast-wise we've got the iconic supermodels (Naomi and Christy), the iconic supers from the 00's (Gisele, Natalia, Raquel), some models who have stablished themselves as future icons recently (Irina, Vittoria, Gigi) and some newer models (Birgit, Cara, Grace and Kaia). As always, some people wanted this model in the campaign and that model far away from it...but pleasing everyone is an impossibility. I'm personally happy with the casting, and waiting to see more pictures. The absolute highlight, in my opinion, is Naomi. Sometimes I feel like she doesn't really try because she's Naomi and doesn't have to anymore. But these pictures of her look like they belong to...

Alberta Ferretti S/S 2018 campaign, by Mario Sorrenti #blogmasday17

Here we go again, time for campaigns! Like I did last season, I'll just talk about the ones I feel are worth my time. And at the end of the season, I'll let you know who the queens of the season are. So far, Vittoria is on the lead. Alberta Ferretti presented a beautiful collection for SS, and Sorrenti and the models manage to make the clothes shine as much as they did on the runway. Vittoria, with her mediterranean beauty, is perfect for this brand. Really happy to see her back on the campaign. And Cara is ten times better on pictures than she is on the runway, so I'm not too bothered by her being part of the ad. However, I do feel like there were many models on the show that could have been a better fit that Cara and Binx. I would normally complain about such a simple background, but it actually works really well with the colours of the clothes. It adds a very nice light that compliments those shiny materials and gives a bit more life to the matte darker ...
